New in the range of NOWOFOL: Monoaxially oriented HDPE-films

Packaging and visual appearance in perfection
Often the first impression is already arbitrative. With things it is not different to humans. Packed in films, for example, many products present themselves great. But film is not equal film. There are significant differences. Thus, it is worth to have a closer look. Longitudinal stretched HDPE films have specific characteristics.

How annoying: The goods, which arrived at the customer, are not in the best condition. The film, which the goods are packed with, is broken – and the whole delivery seems to be bashed-up. This is no way an exception. If the cartons are stacked, often the films are ripping fast, for example by transport in a truck or if the loading is not done gently. Already before the consignee has seen the goods, a bad impression is created. No good reference.

Such lousy appearance can be prevented from the beginning – with the choice of the right film. Particu-larly suitable for such cases are MD oriented, that means longitudinal oriented films out of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene).

Enormous resistant

Monoaxially oriented HDPE-films are especially tear proof, not even in longitudinal direction (MD), but also in cross direction (TD) – contrary to the mono-oriented films out of Polypropylene (MOPP). These films although very tough in the longitudinal direction, but not in cross direction. Therefore, if you pull the film over corners and edges or if the surfaces are irregular, the film can tear quite easy.

The resistance of MO-HPDE-film in cross direction is significant for several applications. So, the film is especially suitable for extreme requirements, for example as tear tape for thick cardboard boxes, which are also stressed by strong side forces. They also do a good job in vacuum packs, which demand quite a high toughness when tearing up.

Considerably for MO-HDPE films is furthermore the tear propagation strength. Even if the film has incurred a light damage, it doesn’t tear further. A lot of other films, in contrast, can not be saved whenever the first deterioration has started.

High transparency – brilliant opticals

Longitudinal stretched HDPE-films from NOWOFOL also exhibit a high transparency. Thus, they give brilliant optical possibilities. So, e.g. products are better recognizable underneath the banding tape. And not only this: Such films can be printed easier compared to Polypropylene films. HDPE-films allow brilliant printing results.

Folding characteristics like paper

For several applications a further property is important additionally: If MO-HDPE-films are folded once, they remain in this position - quasi like dog-ears. Any other film immediately slides back in the primarily condition. The reason for this difference is a low resetting strength, similar to paper. This leads to outstanding folding characteristics (“dead-fold”). Such films, for example, leave a good mark when documents, stock papers, contracts or banknotes are banded. A sharp bend will keep the content together, also if concerns only few sheets – and, however, the precious papers will be preserved.
